Wouldn’t it be nice if we were always smart about what’s good for us and what is not? I mean, just imagine it: always without fail choosing just and only that which is actually good for us! Not feeling tempted at all to do the opposite, ever. Wouldn’t that be nice?
Come to think of it, I’m not so sure that it would be. While on the one hand, it would be really great if I or anyone else never had to hurt either physically or emotionally because of anything that I’ve chosen to do or say, on the other hand, even if chocolate isn’t always the healthiest of choices, I still want the freedom to eat it when I choose to. And then of course there’s times when I’m choosing to exercise my freedom to do stuff that’s a whole lot dumber than eating a bit too much chocolate…
There’s something I’ve been doing lately that isn’t exactly the smartest of things to do when one wants to be healthy and happy and live a well-balanced life with tranquility and perfect peace of mind and all that shit. I’m not going to go into any details on this one, but it’s something that tends to unbalance me and leave me all out of whack. Something dumb that I could live a happier life without. It’s something that makes me think wouldn’t it be nice if I were always smart about what’s good for me and what is not.
But hey, I’m only human, aren’t I? And isn’t that an excellent excuse for continuing to do something that I know isn’t in my best interest…
Fuck it though. I do what I do exactly as long as I do it. What anyone else has to say about it makes not one whit of difference (and I have been advised to stop). It’s only when I’m finally smart enough to give it up, that I quit. Not one second before, and not one moment after.
Yet wouldn’t it be nice to be all smart about it? To immediately quit whatever it is that makes me experience less than perfect peace and health and happiness? Wouldn’t that be nice.
